When love whispers, the response is disruption. Like Shakespeare says in the famous novel, ‘Romeo and Juliet’, “Love is a smoke made from the mist of sighs. When the mist has cleared away, it is a fire sparkling in the lover’s eyes. When frustrated, it becomes a sea fed with loving tears. It is reasonable madness, a deadly bitterness and a delicious sweetness.” No wonder they say love is blind.
These days, love is not treasured as much. Most love relationships are based on money, lust and the like. People indulge in relationships for money- this is why love in Shakespeare’s time is different from now. They say love finds you when you are not seeking it. When you least expect it. It comes dawning on you. If this is the case, I don’t understand why it’s wrong to fall in love at a tender age…. love has found you, hasn’t it? Besides, don’t they say love is timeless?
The bible says, love is kind, patient, considerate, selfless and uses all these sweet words to describe it. So, when can you really know that someone actually loves you? Is it when they shower you with gifts? Is it when they use flattering words? Or is it when they hold you, and you feel secure? Is it when they introduce you to their parents? In a real sense, when do you know that they genuinely love you? Honestly, I don’t know, but only time can tell.
Then again, if love is so lovely, why does it hurt so much? Why do people involved cry so much? It’s ironic to think that love is a wonderful thing when you are hurting from it. It’s meaningless to give a person your heart only for them to break it. That’s why Shakespeare said that when love is frustrated, it becomes a sea fed with loving tears. I get it now!
However, I still firmly believe true love exists. There is this couple I know, they have been married for a decade now and are still thriving. The woman is abled differently. She doesn’t have body parts from the waist downwards. Yet, she is happily married to a man who adores her, and together they have a healthy, bouncing baby. I read about another couple where the wife forgave and accepted her husband after he contracted the HIV/AIDS virus after he cheated on her. True love does exist.
On the other hand, stupid love also exists. It’s actually the most common, according to my dad. He likes to call it poppy love! This is where love and emotions override reasoning. It can be disastrous because of the numerous frustrations involved. Some people even become suicidal because of it. Forgive me for saying this, but this kind of love is indeed stupid!
It is when a spouse stays in an abusive marriage, slowly eroding who they are into a doormat and an occasional punching bag. Or in a fit of rage, you kill the person you claim to love more than anything in the world, and now you have to live with that for the rest of your life. A deadly bitterness, Shakespeare would argue!
Love is like a double-edged sword. It can cut both ways. We only hope that it doesn’t cut too deep. True love rekindles the fire that exists in the lover’s eyes. It is not choosy. It is tolerant and helps you put up with your’ partner’s mistakes and weaknesses. After all, no one is perfect.
A love that secures two love birds and helps them evolve for the better. This is the type of love we all desire, yearn for. For a person to walk into your life and love you just the way you are. To cherish and hold you like nothing else matters in the world. This is true love, real love. My God, I hope I am not delusional and living in Utopia.
When love comes calling, welcome it wholeheartedly. All the same, be careful not to indulge in stupid love. If you can’t escape Cupid’s arrow, then don’t run. Embrace it. However, if Cupid is taking his time, be patient. It will come seeking eventually. For true love is real and real love exists because when love whispers, the response is disruption!!♥
I wrote this article when I was 19 years old, does it read so?
