Move over, golf; there is a new kid on the block. Nairobi’s fashionable crowd has found a new way to mix sport, style, and networking: trading in the golf clubs for padel bats. Last weekend, Tanqueray and Vamos hosted the “After Dark” padel tournament at Networks Padel Village Kenya, thus introducing a chic twist to Nairobi nightlife.
The exclusive event fused sport, culture, and cocktails. The synergy was undeniable. Padel, with its vibrant energy and stylish appeal, was a natural blend for Tanqueray’s timeless sophistication. Consequently, the event attracted athletes, influencers, and lifestyle makers for what many are dubbing the city’s most stylish sporting event yet.
“Padel embodies the rhythm of today’s social scene: active, elegant and unapologetically stylish,” said Nancy Nansikombi Tangueray, Brand Manager. “Through sponsorship of the night play tournament, we wanted to show that every match serve and every sip can be a moment of showmanship.”
Padel is a fast-paced, action-packed game that combines elements of squash and tennis. It is played on a smaller court enclosed by glass walls, which makes it easier to hit the ball. Unlike tennis, padel is more about rhythm than brute strength, thus making it beginner-friendly and suitable for players of all ages and skill levels.
Off the court, Diageo Reserve Brand Ambassador Wangari Mwangi led a “Make Your Cocktail” masterclass where players and guests learnt to mix padel-inspired drinks. The cocktails were playfully yet creatively coined, and each drink mirrored the energy and finesse of the game. The Raspberry Point was a fun favourite.
The “After Dark” event marked more than just a tournament. It was an excellent opportunity to network, make new friends and bond over the love of cocktails and padel. With future collaborations on the horizon, padel is revolutionising into Nairobi’s new social currency. ❤️
