Are you tired of being accused of flirting with other women’s boyfriends? You swear you are not, but nobody believes you. Perhaps you are sending out the wrong signals. Accidental flirting. It may seem harmless, but flirting, whether intentional or not, is still flirting. It could have serious repercussions. Here is a list of what you could be doing wrong.
1. Asking For His Number.
Imagine you are in a bar, waiting for your drink at the counter. Then a guy comes to talk to you. You are not interested, but you don’t dismiss him either. The conversation is interesting, and you find yourself laughing at his jokes. A few minutes later, your drink is ready, and you are about to leave, so you ask for his number.
You ask for his number because you think you might need to buy some insurance from him, or you could ask for the number of the realtor he just swore by. However, he thinks it’s because you are interested in him and you possibly want a date.
2. Complimenting His Jeans.
If you don’t want to be accused of flirting with men, be careful with your compliments. Research shows that men take compliments as a sign of invitation. In other words, when you tell him he has a nice smile, he thinks you want to kiss him.
When you say you like his pants, he thinks you are talking about his pants because that’s what men mean when they say you’ve got nice jeans. The compliments may be sincere, and the intention absolutely pure from your end. However, the interpretation is a different matter altogether.
3. Offering To Buy Him a Drink.
When a guy offers to buy you a drink, it’s because they are interested in talking to you. At least for a while. Therefore, when you offer them a drink, the interpretation remains the same. So, when you try to assert your independence and financial capability by buying the next round of drinks, he thinks you have decided you want to take him home for the night.
4. Touching Him. Anywhere.
The basic form of flirting is touch. A tap on his shoulders when you laugh at his silly jokes. A clap on his back. A tap on his forearm. A brush of knees or a linger on his thigh. An examination of his palm line. Anywhere.
To you, these could seem harmless and innocent. However, to him, they are an acknowledgement of your level of comfort with him. You are comfortable with him. You trust him and possibly want to be touched right back!
5. Swishing Your Hair.
You are having coffee with your colleague on the outside patio. It is windy. Your hair is out of control and is getting in your eyes. Or you are having an indoor meeting and you are seated by the fan. You keep swishing your hair back.
It is irritating. You wish you could tie it up, but you have lost your hair band. But every man’s podcast he has listened to, every article he has read and every romcom he has watched tells him to watch for hair swishing as a sure sign of romantic interest.
6. Watching His Lips Speak.
Watching anyone’s lips as they speak is a brazen sign of flirting. It is universally known and accepted. It signifies that you would like to know them more intimately, or at least you are thinking about it.
Therefore, if you act like you are captivated by his moving lips when he is talking to you, you could be sending a wrong signal. Don’t blame him for thinking you want a kiss. Otherwise, why would you be staring at his lips?
7. Sharing A Plate.
You are at a party and you are on a diet. You don’t want to have your own plate lest you be tempted to take a slice of that obviously delicious cheesecake. So, you pick the food on his plate. This simple action is mindless and innocent. However, he thinks it’s an invitation to share more than just a couple of French fries.
8. Speaking Into His Ear.
You are at a club, office party, or a child’s birthday party. It is loud. You have to shout to communicate. But you find it easier to whisper in his ear. And boom, you are flirting!
When a woman leans in to speak into a man’s ear, two things happen. First, he gets a good whiff of your scent, and then his testosterone levels go through the roof. Whether you intend for this to happen or not, you have to be careful.
9. Dancing To Him.
Most animal species attract their mates through dance. The peacock shimmers and apes move around in circles while banging their chest. It’s no wonder dancing to a man is considered flirting.
Women love to dance, and they don’t mind dancing by themselves. However, when you are grooving to your favourite music and moving your hips to the beat, while facing him or near him, he could interpret it as a mating call.
At the very least, he will join you in the dance. And then you will be dancing with him, which can also do the trick!
10. Asking If He Has a Girlfriend.
Maybe you are curious. Perhaps it came up naturally in a conversation, and now you are asking, “Do you have a girlfriend?”
His interpretation, however, is not so pure.
I mean, come on! If you are not thinking of auditioning for the position, why else would you be interested? ❤️
