The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck by Mark Mason.

I love connecting with nature, whether chasing a waterfall, sitting by a stream, screaming into the ocean or climbing a mountain. Anyone who’s hiked before knows that the view at the top is the reward for the journey below. I am not going to lie; the journey is unpleasant.

It can be filled with thorns, challenging terrains, and harsh weather. You often have to conquer several fears to get to the top. However, when you do get to the top, it’s phenomenal. It is the best feeling ever. Life changing! This is precisely how I felt when I first read the subtle art of not giving a fuck, and by then, I had not climbed any mountain!

It was the first self-help book I read as an adult. I had never read a book that gave me so much insight while casually insulting me at the same time. Actually, when I first picked it up, I thought it would be a good rebellious read. Little did I know, it’s from here, that I would pick up crucial life principles that I would go ahead and live by.

The subtle art of not giving a fuck by Mark Mason- A counterintuitive approach to living a good life- is a self-help, inspiring and motivating book. It comprises 9 chapters, each containing well-researched ideas and personal examples. All intricately woven and diligently written to wake you up from giving unnecessary fucks!

The author does not mince his words. They are as vulgar as they come, some very harsh, yet all eye-opening and thought-provoking. In fact, this book is a literal definition of the saying, don’t judge a book by its cover. What you find as you read is not what you expect!

Just like climbing a mountain, this book may not be for everyone. It contains a lot of obscene language, vulgar statements and words that may not sit well with some readers. It also encompasses harsh truths that many people are not ready to hear and, in this sense, can be triggering. It calls you out on your bullshit, hip of excuses, and sometimes that is a hard pill to swallow.

However, like the view on the top, it is so worth the read. It is a book that talks about acceptance of life’s realities. That good things happen as well as bad, ugly and shitty ones! And all are part of living, and it is okay for it to suck sometimes.

“The desire for more positive experience is itself a negative experience. And, paradoxically, acceptance of negative emotions is itself a positive experience!” the best thing I have ever read! It handles over the mantel of responsibility to you. You may not be at fault for what happens to you, but how you respond, react, and act is all on you. You!

“And then you die” is the last chapter of the book, and yet the most important one, which helps put things into crystal clear perspective. You don’t have a lot of fucks to give, so give them to what truly matters to you!

I rate this book 9/10. I am in love with it. I read it every year before setting my New Year’s resolutions. When you grab your copy, you will understand why. Go ahead and do it!
